The best outcome often unfolds through the most unexpected journey.
(Those of you who welcomed a child after years of infertility can relate to that sentiment, right?)
While we’re both Georgia natives (we’ve been together since 8th grade), we started out renovating homes in California, where we lived for 8 years after Michelle’s modeling career took off. We came back to our home state in 2007 and decided to try our hand at renovating here…right before the market fell into a big, dark hole. Needless to say, we had to find another way to make a living doing something we loved, while still being able to be active participants in our children’s lives.
Throughout our years of recording newborns and children in their most tender, fast-changing moments, we’ve never gotten bored, and we’ve never grown tired of seeing the looks on parents’ faces when they see what came out of a shoot.
Faith and family are the center of our lives. Our three kids amaze us everyday. The things they learn, the way they learn, and – oh, my – the things they say. These sweet faces have taught us so much, and we cherish everyday we have with them! We also have a dog named Sadie who keeps us laughing.
Michelle nudged – okay, practically shoved – me into the world of photography when she saw something in me that I didn’t even see at the time. She had bought me my first camera around 1997, a dinky Canon Rebel. (I’ve since come to my senses and now shoot Nikon.) I went to the school of hard knocks. I can remember many a day sitting in the bookstore reading everything I could find, then taking what I learned from the books and applying it. The learning curve was huge and slow because I didn’t have anyone to answer my questions or mentor me.
So I didn’t grow up thinking I’d become a photographer; I certainly never expected to make a living doing it. But sometimes latent talents spring out of situations that seem impossible. And here we are, and I’m so thankful to have found what fits us…and thankful for Michee’s persistence. I still love shooting and getting exactly what I was shooting for!
The rest of the story: first and foremost, I love God and my family. I also love motorcycles, music, dancing, watching my kids be kids, outdoorsy stuff, spicy food (especially Korean), and being a pain in the bum to Michee.
I began modeling in high school when my cousin entered me in a contest for TEEN Magazine. I won the contest, and my career took off. I began traveling to Japan, Miami, New York, and Dallas. I’ve done commercials for L’Oreal, Gillette, Motorola, Miller Light, Georgia Power, Gold Bond Lotion, Belk, and many more. I also filmed a movie called “Arizona Summer” and had a small role in “Not Another Teen Movie.” I had some really cool roles on “She Spies,” “Special Unit 2,” “Titans,” “Book of Days,” “Passions,” & “Just Shoot Me.” I was able to work with amazing people, famous and not.
But after Asher (our second) was born, we decided living away from my family was just too much. I didn’t enjoy a nanny being closer to my children than my own mother, so we packed up and moved again.
I have put all my experience and knowledge into creating the perfect photography boutique. All my years of modeling, I have always wanted to be on the other side of the camera…directing, designing, and making things beautiful. My dream has come true! This creative release has allowed me to do these things to help others…to make others look and feel beautiful. I love working with James to help create the look you have always dreamed of.
